Timber Frame Home

Black Dog Timberworks worked intimately with the client of this project to come up with a unique custom design that sits elegantly on the edge of a beautiful meadow near the Maine coast in Brunswick. Elements of this design include a shed dormer to accommodate an upstairs bath, and gable dormer that serves as the master bedroom, and a small loft area to feel the cathedral like beauty of the timber frame. This frame was cut out of locally harvested Eastern Hemlock that was left rough-sawn. We then Hand-planed each timber to a smoothness that still allowed the character of the sawn marks to show through. The braces are local Black Cherry with one of the main features of the frame being several braces left in their natural form bringing the art and beauty of nature into the home. Numerous windows of varying styles allow light to filter into the open floor-plan from a multitude of angles. Black Dog Timberworks will stay involved in this project after the timber frame by providing a custom designed timbered entry porch as well as a lightly framed screened porch. The house is being enclosed in a super insulated envelope and finished by the good folks at Benjamin & Company, based right in Brunswick.
